Muchenje Family

Arrive as guests, leave as friends…

At Muchenje we know we are blessed – with a great lodge, great staff, great view, and we are in one of the great wildlife areas of Africa!

We invite you to come and stay in our stylish, yet comfortable, safari lodge. Muchenje is small and intimate, and we like you to feel at home.

Muchenje Safari Lodge housekeeping team

The Muchenje staff are an integral part of our lodge and most are from the local village and have been with us for a number of years. We pride ourselves in investing in our local community and empowering families within this small region

Toff &Kiddy , Lodge Managers

After making Botswana their home in the early 90s Toff & Kiddy have gathered years of experience throughout the tourism industry and within the varied areas of Botswana. From the Kalahari to Gaborone, from the Delta to the Chobe, and from mobile safaris to historical tours, they have enjoyed a wealth of experiences within Botswana and love sharing it with our guests.

They settled in the Chobe region in 2000 and immersed themselves in to the Kasane Community, working at various 5 star lodges around the area. They bring to Muchenje local knowledge and connections which are invaluable when running lodge operations.   They met Matt when they worked at Ngoma Safari Lodge and forged a connection which brought them to Muchenje.

With their experience and enthusiasm for Botswana, Chobe and the wilderness in general we look forward to seeing Muchenje flourish under their care.

Tash & Banyana, Assistant Managers

Tash joined Muchenje in early 2015 as the lodge assistant manager. Although Francistown is home, she has loved getting to know the Chobe region.

Banyana joined the Muchenje Family in 2013, she started as a kitchen assistant and soon progressed through the departments as her potential was noticed. Her passion for great service and sharing her love for Botswana charms many of our guests.

Our professional guides have a love for the African bush, and a passion for the Chobe region. Each guide has their own special niche in our lodge, so whether its birding, big game, walking or ‘the little five’ you will be well taken care!

Smith family

In 1995 the Smith family – Matt, Lorna and Bryan – along with family friend Shaun Metcalfe fell in love with the Muchenje site and are proud to have been involved since the first brick was laid.

Matt and Lorna built Muchenje into the stylish lodge it is today, earning the enviable reputation as ‘the Last Eden of Chobe’.

See more on their website, including Muchenje’s unique list of items needed by our local school. You might also enjoy watching their great video worth watching on YouTube.

Muchenje is very proud to be Pack for a Purposes’ inaugural project which started over 16 years ago. Muchenje has enjoyed watching this unique initiative grow and develop over the years and bring much joy to the children of Mabele and our guests.
